I’ve had this little website for almost three years and only made a handful of posts. There are other platforms with websites and apps that don’t require me to create new Markdown files via CLI and rebuild and push a website. They also have much wider reach - immeasurably so.

As the sands of the internet continue to shift, one may want to ask the questions “are those advantages?” and “are they enough?” Regardless of one’s value judgments, it’s plainly evident that words we publish through somebody else’s platform are out of our control. One may be reminded of Scott Hansleman’s 2012 blog post when he advised you should:

Lofty ideas aside, my plan is to start archiving my words here. One advantage for readers is I tend to write bilingual posts, in English and Portuguese – try the link below! Another is any content of mine that might be worth sharing gets a clear link. I get the same: I can find my own content and share it directly, where relevant. I also get to write more Markdown files and use more CLIs.
